Page 1 of 6 I was recently shocked to learn that a close guy friend, whom I believe
to be a Christian, has gotten involved sexually with another man. What
happened??
Thank you for bringing up this most important question! Nothing has astonished me more than the dramatic transformation of what used to be called "queer" when I was young into what is now called "gay" and is an increasingly accepted lifestyle.
But I guess if those of us who understand our Enemy's agenda had really thought about it, we might not be so surprised that he would stop at nothing in his plot to destroy the beauty of God's divine picture found in masculinity and femininity.
What specifically has happened to your friend? And what is happening to others who have been raised as Christians and who consider themselves to be believers, but who are being sucked up into this deadly tornado of misdirected sexuality?
If we were to interview these people, we would probably hear a variety of stories. Some of them would have had a traumatic childhood experience where their understanding of sexuality was damaged. Many of them would have had poor (or non-existent) relationships with their fathers, or sometimes their mothers. Others may have given in to peer pressure. Older homosexuals might tell how years of sexual experimentation eventually took them into this lifestyle. Often these days people will simply say they were more attracted to those of their own sex.
It's not hard to understand that once our world became broken, that brokenness would continue to produce more brokenness. That's the way it's always been. But what is different now? Why all of a sudden is homosexuality showing up EVERYWHERE?
To answer this question, I'm going to describe three powerful lies. The reason they're so powerful is because they can really sound quite true.
As I hope you will see, these three lies have brought us to a place where homosexuality cannot logically be rejected. To be sure, it can be rejected based on the commands of scripture...for anyone who still takes these commands seriously. But we have become a culture that lives by our personal notions of truth, and are less and less directed by what someone else, even God, tells us to do.
Okay. Lie Number One. We live in a free country, and freedom means being able to do what we want to do.
Well, yes and no. You see, there are three kinds of freedom. First there is physical freedom. It's what you can physically do. If you have a car, you can drive it down a street. Unless, of course, a tree has fallen across the street, or your car is broken, or you're blind, or something like that. Physical freedom is limited by physical barriers, but it's a real kind of freedom.
